South African police services have been trending this week and all for the wrong reasons.
A video of a police officer in Mpumalanga, who appears to be sleeping while on duty, has been doing the rounds on social media.
Mpumalanga Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, said preliminary reports suggest that this occurred at Kwamhlanga police station, and that police management will investigate.
“It cannot be allowed that an officer reports for duty, and then sleeps on the job”, Hlathi told News24.
The video of the Mpumalanga officer comes shortly after an officer at Buccleuch police station in Johannesburg, was recorded while talking on the phone at length with a DSTV consultant.
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula took to social media this week with #MyPoliceStation, encouraging citizens to send him direct messages via social media when they experience shortfalls in service by police.
