Fired Metro FM sports presenter Robert Marawa may make a move back to the station after he was asked to rejoin the SABC by acting COO Bessie Tugwana.
However, according to senior executives, the decision has angered Metro FM station manager Sibongile Mtyali because she was not consulted.
Rawbust Productions learnt from a reliable source that Marawa met with Tugwana in Auckland Park two weeks ago to discuss his possible return.
Though it is not clear if he accepted the “love back” proposal, it is understood that staff at SABC Sports have already started preparing for his return and subsequent takeover of the Sports @6 slot on Metro FM, currently presented by Udo Carlese.
Marawa said he was aware of the possible move back, but denied having met Tugwana to discuss the issue.
“I know that there are talks internally at the SABC about reversing some of the decisions that were taken, especially what happened in the sports department.
“I have not seen Bessie Tugwana in three months and therefore it’s not true that I met with her to discuss that issue,” said Marawa.
Marawa was dismissed from Metro FM in July after a protracted dispute.
An SABC executive privy to Marawa’s comeback said Tugwana’s change of heart was not innocent. The insider alleged that the decision was shoved down her throat by “forces outside of the SABC”.
SABC Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said: “We are not aware of any meeting which was held between Ms Bessie Tugwana and Mr Robert Marawa. As far as we are concerned the matter between the SABC and Mr Marawa is finalised and we cannot comment any further on this.”
