Nomvelo Makhanya is a standout amongst the most celebrated performing artist in South Africa, the capable excellence is generally known for her charecter by playing Lindiwe Ngema on Scandal and she has been open about her batlle with mental scatters with an end goal to help other individuals in comparative circumstances.
She wass diagnosed with bipolar, anxiety and depression a couple of years ago and from that point forward, she has been a voice for those who are experiencing comparative battles.
In a meeting with TshisaLive, she opened up about how she felt when she was diagnosed, “when I visited my psychiatrist he told me that he wanted me to book myself into hospital the next day. I was hesitant. I kept thinking, ‘Dr, I need to get back to work tomorrow’. I was also scared that people wouldn’t understand and that I would be away with no support.”
She said, “I felt like I was drowning and felt like with every breath I was waging a war against myself.” Nomvelo is in a much better place and she hopes that her story will inspire others, “I want people to know that there is hope. You have to take it one day at a time and believe that it will get better. I still struggle some days and I have to talk to myself and let myself know that it will be alright, even if I don’t feel like it in the moment.”
