The Oscar-award winner Lupita Nyong’o, currently starring as Nakia in Disney/Marvel’s record-smashing, watershed hit Black Panther, confirms her role on Trevor Noah’s biopic – Born A Crime – a film adaptation of Trevor’s bestselling debut autobiography.

The actress recently took to twitter to confirm the news in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after solidified the confirmation of her role in the film.

Lupita will play Noah’s mom, Patricia, who served as an important figure to her son in his formative years. She was shot in the head by his stepfather while returning from a church service in 2009, but survived. In recent interviews, Trevor always said that the hero of his autobiography was and still is his mother. In one of the chapters in the book, Trevor explained why his mother played such a vital role in both his childhood and adult life:

“My mom raised me as though there were no limitations on where I could go or what I could do. When I look back, I realized she raised me like a white kid, not white culturally but in the sense of believing that the world was my oyster, that I should speak up for myself and that my ideas, decisions and thoughts matter.”

There has been no word on when the cast will begin filming the biopic or who will be playing the role of Trevor.

We’ll keep you updated on the developments of the film as more information comes.
